Once you have decided on the name you would like:

1. Read this page first. You must be aware of all of and agree to that information before requesting a username change
   • Note that, until further notice, it will not be possible to rename accounts with more than fifty thousand (50,000) edits.
2. Check to make sure this username is not already in use. Do this by searching for the name in this list. If the name appears in the list, even if the link is red, it is taken.
3. Do not create an account under the new name or move/redirect your userpages. We'll do that for you.
4. Log in with your present username in order to place your request. Renames will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.

   Then paste

   at the very bottom of this page. Modify it as indicated below.

   • Add your current username after CURRENT=
   • Add your desired username after NEW=
   • Add a reason for the change after REASON=
   • Do not add anything in the "subject/headline" box
5. Make sure that you have spelled both names correctly, including capitalization and spacing. Save the page.
6. Do not login again under the old username as that may prevent your edits from being moved to your new username. Be especially careful of this if you have a universal login.
7. Check back periodically to answer any questions that may arise regarding your request. Please be patient. It may take a few days for your request to be completed. If you do not answer any questions, your request may be declined due to no response.

Do not be surprised if you suddenly cannot log in to your old account; this merely indicates that you should log in under your new user name as the request has been fulfilled.
